| Shotokan Karate-Do There are many components of modern karate training. One common division is between the areas of Kihon (basic or fundamental),Katas (forms),and Kumite (sparring). Another Popular division is between art, sport and self defense training. Kobudo (weapons) is comprised of another important training area. We have training classes for all ages. From the young (7 to 14 yrs) to young adults (14 and 17)and older adults (18 and Up).Weapons training is part of the regular class.(bo, karmas, tonfas, sai, swords). Classes are divided by ranks and ages. That way, it is easier to learn and understand the material that is taught every day. We have a introductory program for children 4 to 6 (Little Tigers). It help to develop motor skills, team work and concentration. |
| Iaikendo The art of the Samurai sword is known as Iaido or the art of drawing the sword. It was developed by the samurai for training. Iaido is a Japanese martial art associated with smooth, controlled movements of drawing the sword from its scabbard, striking or cutting and opponent, removing blood from the blade, and then replacing the sword in the scabbard. Modern day iaido exponents typically use a blunted metal practice sword (iaito) for practice, especially for beginners. Kendo means "the way of the sword". Kendo is a physically and mental challenging activity that combines strong martial arts values with sporting-like physical elements. Kendo is a Japanese style of fencing. At Golden Tiger we combine both disciplines to create a more sporting type of martial art but keeping the tradition alive. We practice what is called sport combat weapons. |
